The Iron Lynx team had to switch the chassis on its #63 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 following a significant crash during the opening practice at Le Mans 24 Hours by Stephen Grove. Mercedes’ return to Le Mans since 1999 got off to a rough start as Grove crashed heavily during his initial push lap around the Dunlop Chicane, causing the car to miss Wednesday’s qualifying sessions. The front-end damage required the chassis to be replaced with the one used in the European Le Mans Series. Despite most parts being undamaged, the critical front beam and aluminum chassis were too severely affected to repair on-site. The team completed the chassis change overnight, allowing the car to rejoin in Thursday’s practice with Grove, Brenton Grove, and Luca Stolz sharing driving duties. Grove Sr admitted to being caught off guard by the hot conditions and pushing too hard, causing the accident. The team also faced issues in qualifying, with insufficient fuel inadvertently put into the #60 car due to a refueling equipment failure. However, there was a positive highlight as a Mercedes car progressed to Hyperpole for the first time in the 2025 WEC season, with Lin Hodenius in the #61 machine achieving the 11th fastest time.
